Councillor for Ward 4, Highlands East
Council’s Job

Our municipal governments are created by our provincial governments, which have the power to download responsibilities to municipalities, and even to restructure municipalities, as they did here in January 2001, when Monmouth, Glamorgan, Bicroft and Cardiff were amalgamated to form the Municipality of Highlands East.

Today the main responsibilities of our municipal government are:

Municipal Infrastructure. This includes municipal roads, municipal water systems and waste management, municipal buildings and public facilities, such as our arena and community centres.

Fire Protection.

Provision to the community of Policing Services.

Regulation of building standards, development and land division.

Promotion of business and development opportunities for our community.

Parks and Recreation.

Property Taxes.
